What Are Cheek Fillers?

As we age, there are some parts of our face and body that start to show it more than others, but we’re very lucky these days to have all sorts of health and beauty treatments we can turn to that can help us recapture our lost youth, leaving us brimming with confidence and high self-esteem.

Loss of volume is a very common sign of ageing and it can often be seen around the cheek area of the face – which is why some people opt to have cheek fillers to help improve definition or lift the mid face as part of facial rejuvenation.

Also known as dermal fillers, these procedures are designed to lift cheekbones, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and add volume to the face, with injections administered above and around your cheekbones. There are various materials currently approved for use in these fillers, such as hyaluronic acid and polylactic acid, both of which are temporary.

The fillers can last between six months to two years, depending on the kind of material you go for. Once the treatment has been carried out, try to avoid sleeping on your side so you don’t rest your cheek on the pillow. If you can, sleep on your back, facing up.

Dermal fillers can also be used elsewhere on your face, as well, including the lines below your mouth, your jaw, lips, nose and chin, and the nasolabial lines (nose to mouth).

One of the main benefits of these kinds of treatments is that there is no downtime and you can get on with your day as you would normally. You may see a bit of swelling or bruising, but this will usually disappear within 48 hours.
