1

CLEANSE AND PREPARE

PURIFYING GEL CLEANSER: We begin the treatment by cleansing the area of treatment thoroughly. A refreshing pH balanced gel cleanser ideal for normal to oily skin types. We use a pH balanced foaming cleanser that gently and effectively cleans the skin by removing impurities and excess oil, leaving it smooth and soft. Coconut and plant-based surfactants gently cleanse. Chamomile, aloe and opuntia ficus-indica soothe and hydrate for skin that feels fresh, supple and comfortable. This allows us to begin with the freshest palate. INGREDIENTS:

Chamomile: Known for its skin-soothing properties, the chamomile plant’s flowers are rich in flavonoids, which are antioxidants.
Opuntia Ficus-indica: This organic cactus extract from Mexico calms irritated skin and hydrates due to its high content of water-binding compounds.
Coconut and Plant-based Surfactants: Gentle surfactants extracted from coconut and other plants used in cleansers as an alternative to harsh synthetic ingredients.
Aloe: Extracted from the aloe vera plant, soothing aloe contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

BALANCING SOLUTION: The next step involves using the Balancing Solution, which gently cleans and prepares the skin for chemical peels. Lactic acid gently removes dead skin cells, witch hazel and burdock root have antiseptic properties, and cucumber and aloe soothe skin. INGREDIENTS:

Lactic Acid: Naturally found in milk and part of the alpha hydroxy acid family, lactic acid is biosynthesized for cosmetic formulations. It exfoliates dead skin cells and enhances cell turnover to improve skin texture, including fine lines and wrinkles.
Witch Hazel: An astringent extracted from the bark and leaves of the eponymous tree. Burdock Root: A plant extract known for its astringent and soothing properties.
Cucumber Extract: A gentle extract from the gourd family known for its soothing properties, cucumber extract contains amino acids, proteins, lipids and vitamin C.
Aloe: Extracted from the aloe vera plant, soothing aloe contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

TREAT

TREAT WITH RADIANT 20/10: With 20% lactic acid and 10% salicylic acid, Radiant 20/10 is a multipurpose resurfacing peel that reduces acne pimples and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. INGREDIENTS:

Lactic Acid: Naturally found in milk and part of the alpha hydroxy acid family, lactic acid is biosynthesized for cosmetic formulations. It exfoliates dead skin cells and enhances skin renewal to firm and strengthen skin, which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Salicylic Acid: Known as a beta hydroxy acid, salicylic acid is an exfoliant with soothing properties. It is oil-soluble, allowing it to penetrate into pores to effectively exfoliate dead skin cells and control acne pimples.
MATRIXYL™ synthe’6™®: Derived from a peptide naturally found in collagen and laminins, MATRIXYL™ synthe’6™ strengthens skin and improves elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Kojic Acid: A skin-brightening agent derived from fungi, kojic acid reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
Symwhite®377: This potent skin-lightening ingredient targets hyperpigmentation and also has antioxidant properties to quench free radicals and protect skin from damage.

APPLY NEUTRALISING SOLUTION: Neutralizing Solution is a gentle alkaline solution that rapidly neutralizes the acidity of chemical peels while soothing and relieving redness. Sodium bicarbonate balances skin pH, allantoin hydrates, bisabolol soothes and licorice is an antioxidant with skin-brightening properties. INGREDIENTS:

Sodium Bicarbonate: Mixes with water to form an alkaline solution that neutralizes the acidity of chemical peels.
Allantoin: Extracted from the comfrey plant, allantoin increases water content in the skin and enhances exfoliation, improving skin smoothness.
Bisabolol: The main component of the oil extracted from chamomile, bisabolol is known for its soothing properties.
Licorice Root Extract: Licorice brightens the skin and lightens the appearance of hyperpigmentation. It also has antioxidant properties to quench free radicals, protecting skin from damage.

BRIGHTENING ACCELERATOR: Brightening Accelerator is applied to exfoliated skin post-peel for increased absorption of ingredients and specially formulated to enhance any of the AlumierMD® peels with skin brighteners, antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients. Kojic acid, Symwhite®377®, White shitake mushroom and B-White™ brighten skin and improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Soy amino acids enhance skin renewal to smooth. MATRIXYL™ Synthe’6™® is a well-known peptide that strengthens skin and improves elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. NB: Most beneficial ingredients for the skin tend to degrade or denature when placed in low-pH environments. With that science in mind, AlumierMD® chemical peels use only the pure acids, and the booster ingredients (anti-aging, brightening and antioxidants) are applied post-peel. Peels remove the outer dead layers of the stratum corneum, so the booster ingredients are better absorbed. INGREDIENTS

MATRIXYL™ Synthe’6™®: Derived from a peptide naturally found in collagen and laminins, MATRIXYL™ Synthe’6™ strengthens skin and improves elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

RECOVERY BALM: Recovery Balm is an antioxidant and peptide-rich moisturiser specifically formulated for post-procedure recovery. Hinokitiol, sea whip and tetrapeptide-14 relieve redness. Aloe, honey and boswellia soothe and copper peptide rehabilitates the look of skin. INGREDIENTS

Hinokitiol (Thujaplicin): Extracted from the oils of the western red cedar tree, hinokitiol is a superpower ingredient with soothing, anti-irritant, antioxidant and brightening properties. These properties allow hinokitiol to target multifactorial skin redness and blemishes. More than 100 scientific articles exist on the biological effects of hinokitiol.
Copper Peptide: A peptide with a high affinity for copper, this ingredient helps to rehabilitate the look of skin.Sea Whip: The active ingredient gorgonian extract is derived from a marine organism known as sea whip, which is a renewable resource in the Caribbean Sea. Gorgonian extract has powerful anti-irritant and soothing properties. This makes it an excellent ingredient for redness and blemish-prone skin.
Tetrapeptide-14, Tea Extracts, Boswellia Serrate Extract, Honey: A redness-relieving peptide is combined with the antioxidant properties of tea and the calming qualities of honey and boswellia serrate.
Aloe: Extracted from the aloe vera plant, soothing aloe contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

CLEAR SHIELD BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN SPF 42: Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42 Sunscreen is a lightweight, non-comedogenic, quick drying physical sunscreen that provides powerful broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays using a combination of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Niacinamide soothes and relieves redness and sodium hyaluronate hydrates. INGREDIENTS

Micronized Zinc Oxide: A safe, micro-fine mineral that offers broad-spectrum protection from both UVA (aging) and UVB (sunburn-causing) rays without leaving residual chalkiness on skin. Zinc oxide is known as a physical sunscreen agent, largely reflecting and scattering UV rays.

Hyaluronic Acid: A complex sugar molecule occurring naturally in the body, hyaluronic acid hydrates by drawing water into the outer layers from deep within the skin. It holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, and makes skin plumper, softer and smoother.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels cause intentional damage to the epidermis and/or dermis with the goal of stimulating new tissue to improve skin texture and tone.

Chemical peels have been used dating back to Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra used sour milk to improve the appearance of her skin, according to some sources. Lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) is the active ingredient in sour milk.

How can chemical peels benefit the skin?

Chemical peels improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.

How are chemical peels classified?

Chemical peels are classified as superficial, medium or deep, depending on the depth of penetration of the ingredients used. Superficial peels exfoliate to various levels of the epidermis. Medium-depth peels treat through the papillary dermis and deep peels to the mid-reticular dermis.

The strength of a chemical peel is determined by the type of ingredients used, their concentrations and the pH of the formulation.

How do superficial chemical peels work?

Superficial chemical peels decrease the pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulating new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen.

Superficial peels rarely cause side effects. However, hyperpigmentation can still occur with darker skin types.

How do medium and deep chemical peels work?

Medium and deep chemical peels cause protein coagulation and cell necrosis (cell death) in the epidermis and dermis. This induces inflammation and the wound-healing cascade, which leads to dermal regeneration including collagen stimulation. Since medium and deep chemical peels treat through to the dermis, re-epithelialization starts from the epidermal lining of hair follicles outwards.

Medium and deep chemical peels require more downtime and carry with them a higher chance of side effects including hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, infection and scars.

On what areas of the body are chemical peels used?

Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, décolleté, back and hands.

What are common peeling agents?

Some common peeling ingredients include alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and retinol. Alpha hydroxy acids include glycolic acid (originally from sugar cane), lactic acid (originally from milk), malic acid (originally from apples and pears), tartaric acid (originally from grapes) and mandelic acid (originally from bitter almonds). Salicylic acid (related to aspirin) is the only beta hydroxy acid.

Not all peels are created equal, and one peel type doesn’t suit all. Certain ingredients may be more effective for treating acne, while others may be more successful in treating hyperpigmentation or the signs of aging.
