Improve Mental Wellbeing ‘To Look Younger’

Most people think the secret to young-looking skin is good-quality moisturiser, cutting out the cigarettes, and wearing a high SPF every day.

While these are all incredibly important, so is looking after your mental and emotional health.

This is according to founder of Murad Skincare Dr Howard Murad, who said taking some time to pamper yourself can do wonders for your skin.

“Whether it’s a facial, massage, or even a pedicure, be sure to pamper yourself,” he told Elle.

The skincare expert added: “Your health and appearance are positively influenced by increasing your emotional and mental wellbeing. A visit to the spa is a fool-proof way to promote stress relief and relaxation.”

While it might seem indulgent, making sure you have a lie-in every so often is also good for your skin.

This is because a lack of sleep can increase stress levels, which then results in breakouts, bags under eyes, and a dull complexion.

Elle recommends plenty of rest, saying: “[Your body and skin] uses that time to regenerate and recover from your day-to-day activities.”

Before drifting off to sleep, it is also a good idea to wear a hydrating mask overnight. This will leave you with fresh, clear and supple skin when you wake up in the morning!

It is important to boost your diet as well by having plenty of protein. Eating meat, fish, eggs, cheese, lentils, soy or beans will help increase protein levels, which will encourage the body to produce more collagen and elastin to make your skin look glowing and healthy.
