How Skincare Changed Over The Past Year

Last year has been an incredibly strange year for nearly all of us, and that has had a major effect on how we have taken care of our skin.

Which treatments we focus on, how much we take care of our skin and indeed what parts of our face take priority quickly and fundamentally changed.

With many beauty clinics opening up again, here is how our skincare routines have changed over the past year, and whether any of these changes will stay as professional solutions are available.

Experimenting With Our Skin

A lot of us have been working from home over the past year. Over a third of us still are according to the Office for National Statistics. And because of this, so many people started to try new treatments, routines and techniques that they never would before.

Because clinics were not always open and if a treatment didn’t go well you could just turn off your webcam, people started trying treatments at home they would have otherwise gone to a clinic for.

Microdermabrasion, chemical peels and retinols were all tried out at first, although eventually, this settled down and people waited for the professionals to reopen.

The Rise Of “Skinimalism”

Contrasting this completely, many people stopped using a lot of their products completely, focusing more on moisturisers, lotions that are built around protecting and rehydrating our skin.

There were two reasons for this. The first was for people who want more long term health for their skin and to keep it looking fabulous, and the other was to focus on repair after trying very strong home treatments.

The Rise Of Hybrids

Skincare is absolutely back on the agenda, but as people get back out into the world, people want treatments that not only make their skin feel good but also look great as well.

Hybrid products that work not only to take care of your skin but also as makeup will be a huge part of many people’s routines, and short in-office procedures are already seeing a boost for people who want instant, professional results.
